Eruption characteristics of lunar localized pyroclastic deposits as evidenced by remotely sensed water, mineralogy, and regolith

چکیده
Explosive volcanic eruptions are responsible for producing localized pyroclatic deposits found across the lunar surface. These small pyroclastic thought to have erupted through transient, vulcanian-like eruptions. We used several remote data products, including a water abundance map, understand compositional and physical properties of these deposits. Within deposits, we strong relationships between pyroxene abundance, glass regolith density scale height, longitude. suggest that can be estimate gas content an eruption, cooling rate pyroclasts, optical eruption plume, degree fragmentation infer on distribution in interior. Further, deduce excess within represents interior content, which tied other measurements represent important petrological volcanological parameters dynamics behavior.

Water in Lunar Pyroclastic Deposits : Linking Orbital Observations To
Introduction: Water (OH and/or H2O) on the lunar surface and preserved in lunar materials can record information about solar wind, cosmic ray, impact, and lunar interior processes. In particular, understanding if any lunar surface hydration signatures can be linked to endogenous (e.g., magmatic) sources has the potential to inform us of the nature and distribution of volatiles in the lunar inte...
متن کاملRemote detection of widespread indigenous water in lunar pyroclastic deposits
Laboratory analyses of lunar samples provide a direct means to identify indigenous volatiles and have been used to argue for the presence of Earth-like water content in the lunar interior. Some volatile elements, however, have been interpreted as evidence for a bulk lunar mantle that is dry. Here we demonstrate that, for a number of lunar pyroclastic deposits, near-infrared reflectance spectra ...
متن کاملRemote Sensing of Lunar Pyroclastic Mantling Deposits
Mantling deposits on the Moon are considered to be pyroclastic units emplaced on the lunar surface as a result of explosive fire fountaining. These pyroclastic units are characterized as having low albedos, having smooth fine-textured surfaces, and consisting in part of homogeneous, Febearing volcanic glass and partially crystallized spheres. Mantling units exhibit low returns on depolarized 3....
متن کاملCompositional analyses of lunar pyroclastic deposits
The 5-band Clementine UVVIS data at 100 m/pixel were used to examine the compositions of 75 large and small lunar pyroclastic deposits (LPDs), and these were compared to representative lunar maria and highlands deposits. Results show that the albedo, spectral color, and inferred composition of most LPDs are similar to those of low-titanium, mature lunar maria. These LPDs may have consisted larg...
متن کاملLunar Regional Pyroclastic Deposits: Evidence for Eruption from Dikes Emplaced into the Near-surface Crust
Introduction: Lunar pyroclastic deposits can be subdivided into several modes of occurrence [1], suggesting different modes of emplacement. For example, some smaller pyroclastic deposits have been interpreted to have erupted during strombolian/hawaiian activity [2], while others are linked to vulcanian activity related to dike and sill emplacement below crater floors [3,4]. The largest pyroclas...
